Background

Everything starts with a dream

The story of Maskin Mekano begins deep in the forests of Småland, Sweden. A young boy named Göte grows up in a small cottage, working at a wooden shoe factory– but dreaming of another future.

One day, while on a train heading north to become a railway worker, his mother receives a phone call that changes everything. Göte has been offered an apprenticeship with a blacksmith. She calls the next station, and Göte steps off the train. A new chapter begins.

Göte opens his first own forge south of Jönköping, shoeing horses at a furious pace. But times are changing. As horses disappear from the construction industry, he develops loading systems for gravel, and the Smedenman family takes its first steps into a new line of business.

From a blacksmith’s forge to the future of crushing and screening

Together with his son Jörgen, Göte expands into crushers and screening plants, teaming up with former apprentices who found Maskin Mekano. Jörgen later takes over the business. In the 1970s the company launches its first standard models of screening plants– a huge success across Scandinavia. Maskin Mekano becomes known for quality and solutions tailored to the Scandinavian climate.

In the 1980s the company builds large crushing plants, and pioneers the first electric-driven machines.

Crisis leading to growth

When the crisis of the 1990s hits, the next generation steps in. Brothers Daniel and Calle, together with Daniel’s wife Hanna, revitalize Maskin Mekano, developing a new standard program and modernizing production. This becomes the start of real growth– thanks in large part to the unique STE screen already in-house.

Innovation in the DNA

Innovation continues to define the company. In 2015, Maskin Mekano introduced the ground breaking Vibroblock concept, a vibration-damped frame that protects the entire plant from harmful vibrations while maintaining maximum screening efficiency with the aggressive stroke of the STE screens.

From Småland to the world

Today, the fourth generation is active in the company. Still family-owned, still driven by the same values and courage that made Göte step off that train, but now with eyes firmly set on international growth.

From a small forge in Småland to the global stage– Maskin Mekano continues to develop crushing and screening plants for the future of recycling and resource management.
